Soil Additives and Their Uses

Are you noticing your garden or flowers producing less and less each year? As plants grow, they are constantly changing the soil around them. It is important to create optimal conditions for plant health by adding soil amendments which will help alter the physical conditions to better suit the plant’s needs.

At Rural King Supply, we carry multiple soil additives that will cater to every plant and its conditions. Each soil additive has its own specialty that is an integral part of helping the plant grow.

Four of the options are:

Garden Soil is specifically for in-ground use, and not used in containers or raised beds. Working Garden Soil into existing soil improves aeration and moisture.

Potting Soil is best saved for potting container plants. This soil contains organic matter such as vermiculite and perlite. This potting mix also supports good root growth.

Peat Humus improves soil structure. This organic matter worked into soil helps it retain water and nutrients. Humus can also help fight soil-borne pathogens that cause plant diseases.

Cow Manure is a rich source of nutrients and bacteria that is beneficial to the soil. Besides the use of manure as a soil fertilizer, it also aids in composting plant material.
